Over the past two months, the Black Lives Matter movement has brought increased awareness to the systemic racism and xenophobia that has been embedded in our societies. For decades, Asian Americans have been viewed as the “model minority.” They are perceived as the generally quiet community that refrains from speaking up regarding any activism. However, the myth has been broken many times in the past by prominent leaders such as Grace Lee Boggs and Yuri Kochiyama.
